Well, we're sitting here at the train station waiting for our train to Tuscany and all I have to say is, "it's cold". It's been beautiful, but very cold. Thank goodness we brought lots of long sleeved t-shirts and long pants.
Sanitation here isn't the greatest, but at least it doesn't smell! The "toilet hole" was an experience for June the other day, but she made it! :)
Alyssa has been wonderful. The time change has been kicking her in the rear - I am sure by the time we leave Italy, she'll finally be accustomed to the time change.
FOOD here is very, very expensive. I am glad that we started out here and moving south, otherwise we'd be out of Euros by the time we got here.
Yesterday, we went to a Murano Glass Factory. It was impressive to watch and even more impressive were their prices. Let me tell you, Socialism is expensive and we as Americans do not understand this until you visit a real Socialist Society. Nothing here is cheap, and the Italians suffer for it. Many of them blame the Catholic Church for their problems and many no longer attend.
Our first day was full of firsts: the Water Taxi was awesome and Alyssa was intrigued by the bidet (though it wasn't like any I'd seen in Germany and/or Japan).
Speaking of Japan: there are Japanese everywhere! Our hotel was full of them and it even had a sushi restaurant in it! It pays to speak Japanese because none of them spoke Italian.
The bath tub in our room was quite deep, so Jared and Alyssa were pleased! We had the only balcony in the hotel and it was entertaining to look at the laundry hanging outside of the windows and listening to the beautiful church bells summon the Italians to Mass.
Accessing the Internet via computer has been a challenge. I promise to update the Blog with the hundreds of photos we've been taking, soon. (I dropped our camera and really messed it up. Jim and June bought one just like ours, so we have another camera in case ours completely dies.)
It is nearly time for us to lug our luggage to the train platform.
I will make every attempt to update as I can! June is keeping a journal and I hope to update the Blog with her notes later!!
Hope all is well back home!
Ciao!
Cherrel.

How about the next time you are at a toilet hole take a picture with June standing beside it. There are others of us who have never seen such a thing.
